πŸ“– Learning Goals

After doing research on the target market and competitive analysis I came up with main research points for interviewing flyers to find out more about their pain points while flying.

  • β€’ What are the biggest pains with traveling?
  • β€’ How do people spend their money while traveling?
  • β€’ What are peoples biggest concerns during air travel?

πŸ“Š Survey Findings

Preliminary Findings

While conducting research I sent out a preliminary survey to collect information about people's experience with air travel. General questions so I could gauge the array of pain points and narrow down to where flyer's have the most trouble or worries with.

Survey Synthesis

Even though about 5% said they have the most issues at the carousel, there are more contributing factors to losing luggage beyond the carousel, and these issues start before flyers arrive at the luggage carousel. That's where the 23.5% of issues while checking baggage factor in.

Which led to me think there is an underlying problem that people face and don't think about it until their belongings are not where they expect them to be.

πŸ’ Interview Questions and Topics

What are the biggest pains or favorite parts of air travel

  • β€’ Tell me about your worst experience during air travel.
  • β€’ Tell me about your favorite experience during air travel.
  • β€’ What is your experience with delays and what caused them?
  • β€’ How do you find information about any changes to your flight

I wanted to ask people questions that would lead to what they would primarily be concerned about during air travel. What makes a flyer comfortable or happy and what causes concern or annoyance.

🎀 Interviews

Conducted 12 interviews

I went out and interviewed people who have experience traveling by flight. This ranged from frequent to occasional flyers.

After conducting all 12 interviews I found some strong and basic common denominators. I found that almost all interviews have had trouble with checked luggage. Since it is their belongings people feel protective or have a connection with it. So one of my main take away is that people want to feel safe and secure about their belongings.

πŸ’¬ Quotes

Key quotes from interviews

" I Was on a vacation for a week without my belongings "

" I was Going to France and my suitcase went to Canada "

" Sometimes you wonder if your bag will make it on the same plane, especially when it is checked in late and then you are told there is no more carry on room in the plane. "

" When the carry on storage has no more room they make the remaining passengers check their bags, leaving you with some concern. "

Compiling Interview Data & Quotes

What Do the Findings Mean?

1. People are very attached to their belongings

2. People value peace of mind

3. If someone's luggage gets lost it can ruin their trip

Problem Statement

Flyers want to have peace of mind about their checked luggage and be able to easily recover it, if lost. There is no current way to see the status of the location of luggage and recovering can be a pain.

Solution Statement

To give Flyers peace of mind Luggage Tracker will let them find out the luggage's location. Additionally it will be connected with the airlines and airports contacts and schedule information. This will help recover lost or misguided luggage faster in addition to giving peace of mind knowing exactly what is happening.

πŸ“± Wireframes and UI Designs

πŸ“Œ Sign up & Onboarding flow

In this flow the traveler has just downloaded the application and chooses their method of signing up. The traveler then sets up the rest of their account including confirming their phone number, adding their account info, and adding an optional profile picture to finish setting up their account.

Wireframes - Sign up & Onboarding flow

The initial screens for this flow were pretty minimal, originally designed with only the required sign up fields on one screen, which then leads the flyer into the profile setup right away without getting more information that would help complete the profile better.

High Fidelity - Sign up & Onboarding flow

In the high fidelity iteration I developed a deeper sign up process that gets the traveler more acquainted with the software. The process is a bit more step by step, reducing the amount of information the traveler has to process at once.

πŸ“Œ Device Connection and Setup flow

In this flow the traveler finishes setting up their profile and links their preferred device to the application. After linking their device, the traveler will enter details and some preferences for their profile to finish setting up their account, once finished they will arrive to their setup home screen.

Wireframes - Device Connection and Setup flow

For the initial screens in this flow I dove into the idea of connecting with the traveler while their device connects to the application by implementing an quick animation during connection. This was to setup trust with the flyer so there is more of a connection to their belongings by bringing life to the connection steps.

High Fidelity - Device Connection and Setup flow

In the high fidelity iteration I fleshed out the connection steps to make the process more intuitive. I added more details to the connection process so the traveler is more informed, along with a refined version of the connection animation and greeting.

Continuing on with the theme of connecting with the flyer to build trust, immediately during profile setup the traveler is greeted on a name by name basis. The profile setup process continues with some more in depth questions to pre-setup some preferences. Instead of just bringing the flyer to the luggage location like the wireframe, the flyer is brought to a home screen including all the details they would like to see at once pertaining to their luggage and the related flight.
